quote:
We have a modified creo, basically a lotum, that works very well. We're now considering a ds 8600. Cost seems to be the issue, but I'm concerned about quality, consistency, control. Our system is relatively simplistic (one paper stock, one press, one plate curve). We produce about 120 plates daily on bakeless Sword plates. We're currently holding a very tight tolerance (3 to 4%) between chemistry cycles when measuring the plates (in the 50% range) and have found no one as picky as us with which we can compare notes. I want to make sure that ds can reproduce similar results.
Does ds or any others compare? I'm not ready to fix something that ain't broken, so I'm a little apprehensive about a change.

In my opinion stick with your modified Creo. Or, if you really are looking for a new solution perhaps consider buying something used. The platesetter is a Presstek Dimensions 200 (2 up) machine with the Momentum (Harlequinn based) RIP. Our machine is being repaired due to a bad motor in our chiller so I went there to use their machine to make plates and it works just fine. i think he's asking for about $7000 for it but is taking offers.

I am new to the forum, but it seems to be a great source of knowledge.

I have a query, which I am hoping you will be able to help me with.

I work for a small lithographic print company. We are currently looking to upgrade our prepress department due to aging machinery, and computer equipment, and I am trying to find the best solution.

We run a 2 colour ROLAND 200 B2 press - plate size is 605mm x 730mm, and a Heidelberg GTOZ and a Heidelberg GTO (B3) - plate size is 400mm x 500mm.

We would use approximately 50 B2 plates per week, and 75 B3 [plates per week.

We are running a Fuji Imagesetter, on an Appletalk network, but it looks like it is coming to the end of it's life cycle, so well will be replacing it very soon.

Any assistance that you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

Stephen Donnelly

Stephen, you should contact us if you need advice on what sort of CTP system to buy. Generally it all depends on what sort of plates you are running, the size of your press, and the amount of plates you produce yearly/monthly. Check out our website for deals on used platesetters and used imagesetters

The good news for you guys is that we shall soon be buying PDF/X-Robot!
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Kipper, this was interesting because I thought that the Heidelberg Prosetter was an internal drum imager. I do like the violet aspect of it and Creo Trendsetter is a power hog, but man I would never trade a trendsetter for an internal drum platesetter. I would say stick with the Creo Trendsetter myself.

I would stick with the Trendsetter as well, very sturdy machines that are proven. By far one of the most popular machines that we sell, check us out if you need information about used platesetters or used imagesetters

Thank you for the site and thank you all for all your contributions and responses to everyone's posts, it really does help us all as a printing community. I am hoping Santa puts a CTP system under my tree! I'm off for a bit, see you all in the new year.

Let me know if you would like that CTP to be a used ctp system
Anyone know if this ctp had any problem?

Have you considered any other manufacturers? What kind of plates are you using? Check us out for used ctp systems

We have used Creo, Kodak, Screen, and Agfa in stock.

I do not have the book and am not sure how to move the clamp. Any suggestions?

I suggest you have a professional look at that, it might not be a big issue but if you make a wrong move you can seriously damage your equipment. My company has experience repairing used prepress equipment in the field and can certainly help you.
I have a Trendsetter 400 III Quantum. Arturo, you are the first person I've read that says you don't need a dongle, but I can't figure out what you're saying. Could you tell me what all of this means? And how I access it? We are trying to move to a new location and would like to lock down the laser, but can't access the laser.
