I have both Quark 6.5 and 7 on my computer and want files in 6.5 to open with 6.5. they seem to automatically want to open with 7 even if i change the OPEN WITH option in info. if i want to open with 7 i would like to be able to drag it there
does anyone know of a way to control what application launches when i double click on a 6.5 or 7 document

When I tried "Get Info -> Open With -> Change all" the get Info dialog automatically reverts back to Quark 7 after I open v7.
Ive tried progams such as RCDefaultapp and Filebuddy to no avail because of the type and creator codes being the same.

If I could somehow change change launch services to think only 6.5 exists to open a doc then I could always open with it UNLESS it is a v7 document in which case I could drag to it

In essence i dont want people opening 6.5 docs in 7 by accident but have the ability to open a v7 doc if thats what they are sent

I have seen same problem here. I am thinking of writing an application that will inspect Quark and InDesign files, then open them in the appropriate version of the application. One common app that is a droplet, opens quark and InDesign files in their correct versions. I think it would be a good idea. We have had same issues here.

I have my operators dragging all Quark to dock on 6.5, if error, drag to Quark 7 icon. Same process with CS2 and CS3. But a single droplet application would be cleaner and save allot of clicks, especially if I put it out as freeware for all. What do you think?

I have Quarks 4, 5, 6 & 7 on my mac, as we have clients who like us to amend jobs and then supply them the final artwork back in the same format for next time - a total pain, but they pay heavily for it, so we do it.
It would be great to not have to open the generated quark report to see what version was used, before we choose which Quark to open files with.

If a customer pays his bills on time, I'm all in, no matter what version. I do the easy thing - keep OS9 running on a mac, and check all files there first. After that, its is a shot in the dark what version of files they are. I don't even bother with InDesign 1 anymore either.

Mine seem to try to open in the version that was opened first on my computer. So if I started working in quark 6 and then open 7 if I just double click on a doc it will try to open in 6.

the sneaky try is to only have 6 running

if you insist on a double click it'll have a go at opening - if its a 7 file it will tell you that 6 is poo and the file was made in a more recent version of poo
