I hated to even get on here as I am so clueless - but I really need help . My husband and I have a fairly new printing business and I am trying to self teach myself (which I am usually good at) - but when it comes to computers it is a bit difficult, especially since I have never used a mac before... My husband has always worked in printing - from press operator, to plant manager, now to business owner. But, he has not done the prepress setup before as it was always hired out, which we cannot currently afford to do . So - any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh, we have been getting our film made somewhere else until we get this figured out...

We are using a Mac G# with OS 9, an Agfa ProSet 9800 (9836), and we just purchased a Viper 1.9 Software Rip. I am trying to figure out how to load the rip. I loaded the viper software and the agfa set 3.1 - but when I go to choose an engine it says that I don't have a zone - how do I set that up?? Also, the documentation says that we need to load the upgrade to PSE 11.0 and that is should be on my Companion CD - well, it is not on the CD... neither is the Calibrator. Any suggestions???

Welcome to the group. This is really old software and technology of course and will be hard to get going and maintain. You need to seek out an Agfa tech or an used equipment dealer who handles this stuff to help. I'm not saying give up on getting help here, but to run a printing company this is mission critical importance. Also, you have a challenge to learn it all as well.

So, where are you located? Looking on the web and engaging folks here is a great idea and you may find some help. But I would also pursue finding a local used prepress dealer who knows this Agfa stuff of this vintage. You may also seek out Team EPS or Bob Weber Inc to assist you. They may not be local but may be able to get some very good phone support and direction to get you over the hump.
