Corel Draw in Prepress Files, Graphic Design

Hello,

Welcome to the prepress forum, I am in Columbus Ohio, USA. Corel Draw isn't the best drawing application but many PC users and business level usrs have it. In the US we see maybe less than half a percent of files in Corel Draw. I used to see more of it a few years ago. What problems are you having exactly? How can we help? I assume you are using a PC, Corel Draw for Mac was discontinued a few years ago. What versions and system are you running?

We receive more than 90% of files in CorelDraw. And the problems encountered are mostly because people do not have the dicipline and misuse the features provided in the software. Its like this: Corel gives you a long rope, and if you are not careful, you can also hang yourself with it. Till date I have not found any reason why Corel should not be used for artworks... If you have any specific problem, I can try and help you out.

Corel Draw

Hi!
I have been using Corel Draw from past 7 years. It's nice to work with. Making vector graphics, multi page brochure, posters etc. for print media. But be careful with the colours what you see in the monitor that does not match with the printed copy. I always increase 10% of overall colour amount before it goes for printing. But I'm never satisfied.

im using corel 13 running on p4 windows xp professional. the most common problems that i encounter with corel is the dropping color even on grayscales. we have tried and tested several settings to have a standard color management but it is still occuring, one after another. Is there any way can I set a standard setting to achieve a consistent output?

by the way, i have a dolev800V and a dolev450, PSM 7.1 RIP and a Brisque 3.

I am Nigerian and have been using CorelDraw for 7years. I think it is
very good for designs. Ialso use Photoshop, CorelPhotopaint and other
softwares to aid my designs, and I have not been having much problem with it. Presently, we are trying to get a CTF/CTP machine very soon. It is
this new Deskjet Print Stuff that comes with baker and other things. It also
can print on Flex and Vinyl! Do you think we should go for this machine.
I have intrest in knowing more about other designing softwares, I will appreciate it if you can send me a software copy of such softwares. If any one has any problem on CorelDraw, pls contact me on +234 803 244 6874, I am willing to help, if it require me coming over, I equally won't mind.
Also while I have been working on my Corel stuff for years, my print knowledge too I have also upgraded to match up with my designing ideas. I learnt there are more magic that is done with other softwares, I will want to know much about this softwares because I like challenges, get me challenged.
I am happy I joined.
Thanks.

Oluwafemi Ajagunjeun, glad you can join us. You will find a lot of people using a lot of programs. For me, and many people I know, here are the major programs I see daily. For layout, QuarkXPress and InDesign. For creative applications, like you would use CorelDraw, we see the majority in Abobe Illustrator and Freehand. With Adobe buying Freehand and not updating anything anymore, Freehand will be gone within the next year or so. And of course Photoshop, which is the only real program when it comes to a dot driven (raster) file. There are others out there, but for those "designers" out there, these are the major players in the PrePress and design world.

corel draw

Hi femi and osmond, i'm a prepress/graphic director in the printing city of shomolu in Lagos Nigeria. If you are a new user of coreldraw avoid the use of the recent version because it may be too complex. So the best to start with is Corel 8 or 9 and make Pagemaker your favourite it's good for booklet works.
In using coreldraw you have to be very careful of colours like black, blue, purple and red. The black with C100Y100M100K100 is very dangerous it's CTF or CTP but it's the best on DI.

Depending on how they colors are used or created, you can always create your own CMYK colors and replaced what is there. Instead of the colors brought in line Pantone 186C, you can create your own and call it PMS 186 with the CMYK values you want to use

pantone to cmyk for DI

you have been using corel for 7 years? I do not believe it. QM DI, huh?

You print to the QM DI, no doubt, as I do, ANY GRAPHICS APPLICATION HAS, IN THE PRINT DIALOG BOX, PRINT SEPERATIONS, AND USUALLY IN THE SAME AREA IS --CONVERT SPOT TO PROCCESS--

I do not believe you have been using graphics software for 7 years......

You can use any program for a long period of time. Some people pick up everything right away, some never pick it up. Myself, I have never used Corel, thank goodness, from what I have heard. As for Quark, Illustrator, Freehand and Photoshop, I go back to the great year of 1991 for my intro with a Quadra 950, built it myself for right around 20k. Yep, RAM was expensive and the hard drives small. Wow has it been a long time.

1991! that's the time when I started my career too. And since then I have been using CorelDraw... started from V.2 and now on X3 (v.13) -- 17 years -- ... and believe me there are no regrets. I have seen/used almost all prevailing graphic software including Indesign, Quark, Illustrator... but my favourites remain Corel, Photoshop and Ventura...
