image display problems in InDesign CS3

Hi

I installed CS3 Premium Suite and I love the new Photoshop but I have a problem with InDesign. Every time I print from it, it will leave out some TIF photos. Which is why I have to go back to using CS.

anybody else having the same problems?

When you go to print, see if it is omitting Tif files. In the graphics tab, send data, make sure it is on all, and this may help

i have problems with pdfs and eps files placed into InDesign. i always convert to a tif first, if possible. (logos have to stay as an eps, but that is a whole other topic)

have you tried importing the pdf into photoshop and changing it to a tif?

I really hate to do that, it will make the text less quality unless you have a suggestion that will make the text as original

Besides, having to do that for 80+ pages will be time-consuming and sure some of the pages would be okay in CS3 but I got to have it right for the press guys.

spot colors?

I have had printing issues with spot colors in drop shadows (transparency) cause images to drop out. I'd also check that you are not using [Black] and [Paper] instead of black and white.

Although double checking font integrity if it should come into contact (overlap) an image.

Some older images that we had on file, OS8 or 9 also caused issues with InDesign even causing it to crash the file until I relinked a file after updating it in Photoshop.

cheers,

Bob

[Black] and [Paper]... help me out?

I've talked to some people, including my boss who has been in prepress for a LONG time and also seems to be an InDesign expert. We're not sure why anyone would have issues using [Black] and/or [Paper] and need to specify new swatches for these (new swatches being black and white). Can someone shed some light on this? I work in prepress and we've never received files from a customer where they have created new black and white swatches to use in favor of the supplied [Black] and [Paper].

What would the advantages/disadvantages be in naming new swatches? The only obvious benefit I can see is the ability to delete said swatches or easily replace "black" with another spot color if necessary.

But (and this is more on topic) why would these swatches affect Images in InDesign at all? We're flummoxed.

Our issues with [Black] and [Paper] have to do with transparency and our digital press. Even the vendor hasn't been able to figure it out passed "don't use it".

We don't make a new [Black] but we do create and use C=0, M=0, Y=0, K=100 for black and paper = white = CMYK=0. For whatever reason, these colors do not create any issues with transparency. The same thing happens if we were to use a spot color in a transparency.

I should have clarified my point that this problem has revealed itself when designers put a drop shadow on an image and the image subsequently drops out, leaving a white box or some other artifact.

Many of our legacy files that were originally done in Quark had a white and black separate from the defaults because there were instances where we had to fax a rough proof (copy only) and it was easier to delete a white, substitute black for the fax.

So that's the explanation as best as my grasp of the english language can muster.

cheers,
Bob
