Preflighting for PDF/X - Compliance with Adobe Acrobat
A customer is sending in files that are supposed to already be PDF/X-1a compliant. How can I verify and preflight that the files are truly PDF/X-1a compliant and does that really mean they are free of problems.
Also, I remember a post that said the PDf files coming out of PDF-Robot and PDF-X-Robot are better than most PDF/X-1a files. So, how can I tell if these supplied files are as good as PDF-X-Robot files, what would be the difference? If they are PDF/X-1a, what are the things I need to watch out for? _________________ peace bro, snoop_cat . . .

RE: Preflighting for PDF/X - Compliance with Adobe Acrobat
In Acrobat 6 Pro, you can use the PDF/X dialog box options, there you can create and verify PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3 files. You can also create conversion settings for converting Adobe PDF files to PDF/X.
To get to the Preflight PDF/X dialog box in an open PDF Doc, choose:
Document -> Preflight.
Then, Click PDF/X.
After you have validated your PDF content against PDF/X-1a criteria you can then save a copy of that PDF document as PDF/X, if it is compliant to standards.
Example: For both PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3, an ICC profile describing the destination device is required. If the current document doesn't have the required embedded ICC output profile, you can embed one, then save to PDF/X-1a.
If you want the PDF file to meet a minimum image resolution or the total number of color separations allowed, you can specify that as well. Good Luck. _________________ Interests: adobe acrobat 8 pro, acrobat 8 professional, acrobat 8 standard, acrobat 8.0, acrobat 8.0 professional, acrobat connect, acrobat exe pdf forum, graphic design forum.

RE: RE: Preflighting for PDF/X - Compliance with Adobe Acrob
If you find youself daily needing to preflight Adobe PDF files, converting them to PDF/X-1a, it could be a big time saver to run a batch-processing sequence. A batch processing sequence will save converted files and reports into pre-defined folders. This method can even separate files that pass from problem files that fail.
For users only preflighting files, there's no need to save changes or save copies in output folders. If you want to then save as and convert to PDF/X-1a,
To Batch Inspect or PreFlight Adobe PDF files:
=================================
(A)
Select and configure the preflight profile desired from those listed in the Preflight dialog box.
(B)
Choose Advanced > Batch Processing. Then, Click New Sequence.
(C)
Name your sequence in the Name Sequence dialog box, Then click OK.
(D)
From Batch Edit Sequence dialog box, choose desired options and settings for Run Commands On and Select Output Location. Then, Click Select Commands.
(E)
Choose the Preflight command on the left side of the Edit Sequence dialog box, and click Add to place it in the list on the right, then Click Edit.
(F)
In the Preflight dialog box, choose a profile from the Preflight Profile menu.
Do any of the following, and then click OK:
=================================
If you want individual reports of the preflight results, choose a report option from the Type of Report menu. You can create reports including all inspected files or only the problem files. By default, the reports are saved in the same folder as the original PDF files.
To designate a folder for the files that passed inspection and their associated reports, select Save Copy on Success. Click Browse to locate the folder.
To designate a folder for the files that failed inspection and their associated reports, select Save Copy on Error. Click Browse to locate the folder.
To summarize preflight results for all inspected files, select Create PDF Report and Show PDF Report.
To Create and Save PDF/X files in Batch Process:
=================================
(A)
Choose Advanced > Batch Processing. Click New Sequence.
(B)
Type a descriptive name for your sequence in the Name Sequence dialog box, and click OK. Click Select Commands.
(C)
Choose the Save As PDF/X1-a or Save As PDF/X-3 command on the left side of the Edit Sequence dialog box, and click Add to place it in the list on the right. Click Edit.
(D)
In the Preflight PDF/X dialog box, choose a conversion set from the PDF/X-1a or PDF/X-3 menu.
Click OK after doing one of the following options:
=================================
You can choose a folder for copies of the PDF files that failed PDF/X conversion, select Save Copy on Error. Then, Click Browse to locate the folder.
You can choose a folder for the converted PDF/X files and copies of the original PDF files, select Save Copy on Success. Then, Click Browse to locate the folder.
You can summarize PDF/X conversion results for all processed files, just select Create PDF Report and Show PDF Report.
There's some very useful stuff there to try if you are receiving PDF Files daily that need to be verified and then repaired to PDF/X-1a. For a little time spent setting this stuff up, you can save yourself allot of work every day.
