This is just not a good idea in my opinion as these systems are so similar there's no reason to have them both. If yoy need redundancy for just in case, build a second system with disk images to take over in case of failure. If I had PrintReady, i would not buy Prinergy, and vice versa. you are ensuring twice the support cost, training cost, and adding complexity for no good reason?

I'm with Joe, two seperate work flows are not worth running unless there is a specific reason for it. I would choose the onethat works best for you, and stick with it. All this could mean is problems in the future.

Heidelberg Printready + Kodak/Creo Prinergy: Possible?

Hi abcdeath

The simple answer is yes and is a great way to migrate from one workflow to the other while the transition is happening. We did this at our site and had very little downtime because of it. I use to run both clients concurrently on my workstation without issue. The only problem you might have is plugs-ins for one of the workflows might override the plugs-ins for the other in Acrobat. The other issue is how savvy your operators are and if they can get their heads around using both workflows. They are both very comparable so your procedures should not change much. As for technically living on the network since both of ours were servers to themselves and contain independent raids they did not conflict nor were they part of a domain system other then the default workgroup which made things very simple. For final output device this was easy as well since it was a tiff dropped to a hotfolder which is easy to configure.

Hope this helps.

Hi abcdeath,

Now that I read this again and your second post/response I see what you are doing more clearly. Most of what I said is still valid I think. I was interpreting the first post as your company was LOOKING to buy Prinergy and integrate, not that they had ALREADY bought it.

But still, I would look to migrate to Prinergy rather than to integrate the two. One or the other, but only reason to do both is while you are transitioning to the new RIP system. We had same here moving from Kodak/Creo/Scitex Brisque to Esko-Graphics SCOPE workflow. Your two systems are more alike tyhough.

After reading what you are doing though, why impose a second time. Feed that first impoosition straight into the raster to 1 Bit Tiff. You need to convert and migrate, not mess around too long with both. That Heidelberg system is worth money. If your company is going with Kodak (why) then migrate and sell that Heidelberg system while it still has a high value. Use the cash to buy another box to add to the Prinergy system.

As far as your comment on a JDF signature. Prinergy uses Preps, that's what I use. From Preps you can print a signature to a JDF, feed that to Prinergy. So, you can impose in Heidelberg Signastation to JDF, then feed that straight into the Prinergy without re-imposing. If not, let's talk about why not. I can make you a Preps JDF to compare to the Heidelberg Signastation JDF, see what's different?

Hi adcdeath

Preps is a good imposition software and worked for 95% of our impositions but Signa is able to do all the impositions we have come across without losing some functional benefits of doing electronic impos. Maybe you don't have access to Preps or it wasn't bundled with Pinergy.

When working in Preps with Prinergy you write PJTF files not JDF. You can do this with Signa. I am assuming you are using Signa Station 2 version 2 or 3? If not the function should be similar in Signa 9 as I know someone who uses this version with Prinergy. In Signa go to resources/output parameter sets/ Here modify or create a new output set then change workflow/device to Prinergy/ variant to Prinergy job ticket. You should now be able to write out your pjtf file with a ps for the marks then import into Prinergy.

I hope this helps.

I would be curious as to know why you are moving from Printready to Prinergy? Both systems are very comparable.
