Qaurk Xpress 6.5 update, problem or solution, OK for Robots?
Hello, I am inquiring whether I should update to the new Quark Xpress 6.5 from Quark Xpress 6.1 at this time? Is PDF-X-Robot_XT compatible and tested with Quark Xpress 6.5? I am currently running it with Quark Xpress 6.1 on Mac OS X 10.3 with no classic apps on my entire machgine.
Anybody testing Quark Xpress 6.5 with PDF-X-Robot workflow yet? I thought I would ask instead of being the guinea pig. The listed feature enhancements are not really telling me anything that I really needed. But I was always told by joepostscript at software-robotics support that he tests and programs around everything as most current version. So, I figured that he is already running and testing on quark xpress 6.5.
<SNIP FROM QUARK's SITE>
Feature enhancements in QuarkXPress 6.5
* Expand your Linotype library:
For a limited time, registered QuarkXPress 6.5 users gain access to a font package with more than 40 OpenType fonts from Linotype. And if you are prompted with a "Missing font" message, you can click the "Buy missing font" button and buy additional fonts from Linotype at a special price for registered users.
* Do more:
Manipulate images right in QuarkXPress 6.5 with powerful QuarkVista™ XTensions® software — and forget about expensive image editing software.
* Make it easier:
These enhancements make life easier for everyone:
* Import native Adobe® Photoshop documents (.psd files) into QuarkXPress 6 and exploit the power of multi-layer Photoshop images without leaving QuarkXPress 6.
COMING SOON
* Place guides on a master page’s pasteboard and display them automatically in your layout.
* Group tables with other QuarkXPress 6 items including other tables, picture boxes, and text boxes.
* Customize printing features such as saving output settings for custom bleeds as print styles.
* Simplify IT management with support for Citrix servers and run the application off a server instead of an individual user’s computer.

RE: Qaurk Xpress 6.5 update, problem or is OK for PDF-Robots
Hey Snoop,
Yes I am using quark xpress 6.5 now for weeks without any problems. I emailed support about it when it came out and sam said it was fine, that he had been testing with quark xpress 6.5 for months. Since he's a quark xtension developer, they get early release on all updates to test with. So, quark xpress 6.5 has been testing out solid for moths.
I must say that I can't tell the difference in quark xpress 6.1 and the new quark xpress 6.5 free update. But I am not really interested in the new features enough to use them. Like importing adobe photoshop .psd files, I consider that a bad workflow practice and would never use that anyway. Then all the tables crap, who uses quark xpress for that stuff anyway. I think in general quark xpress is out of touch with what people really need and want.
But, quark xpress is still a superior application to Adobe InDesign and it is still the preferred layout application for printers and publishers everywhere. Adobe InDesign is OK, but the only improvements in there over Adobe PageMaker were copied from Quark Xpress. Quark Xpress 6.5 is a solid release and I've had NO PROBLEMS using it at all in my workflow so far. I'd say go ahead and upgrade to QuarkXpress 6.5.

spelling - Qaurk or Quark?
Hi Dave, Welcome, you'd be surprised how many hits you get searching, spelling it incorrectly. Quark has more traffic, but Qaurk has less competition and still gets searched by bad spelling folks and people overseas, funny isn't it. _________________ later dudes, xserv
