The higher-ups in my company 'felt the need' and purchased this software to 'increase productivity and consistency', but all of the things I have heard bother me a great deal. Though we are are going to be using it for mainly grayscale/batch images (like automotive) I still feel like when we get this, control over the image reproduction will be lost. I've gotten various publications from companies that use this software and have compared the quality to that of my own department and I must say--BLECH. I'd like to know more about it and hear what others who use it have to say. I was surprised when they paid what they did for this and we're still printing to negative and running the ancient press to death!!
Any input would be awesome, links/forums anyone knows of would be nifty too.
Oooh, and possibly even somewhere I can find a demo disc of sorts or even training information...

I've never used Intellitune, but sounds kind of like Intellihance, a photoshop plug-in that does the same thing. I was working at a very large book printing plant that was doing highschool yearbooks. Of course you can imagine the range of skin types and lighting conditions doing work like that. Is allot like automotive, I've done many auto trader style publications, same thing.

Anyway, the fact was that with all those scanners going 24hrs to do 5 or 6,000 scans a day, we had to resort to something. I wrote batch scripting to process through the scans at about 5 seconds a pop. So, I can tell you that with intellihance it is possible to set up an automated scan correction process that can improve almost every scan without doing harm to any of them. The trick is in the subtle and moderate use of such technology. Don't try to do the best possible on the images, shoot for only an improvement and fine tune it till a good scan goes through virtually untouched, a dark scan gets a little lift, a blown out scan gets a little pump, etc. With intellihance you simply had to turn off all but a couple of controls, and pull back the correction algorithms left to be very subtle.

Good Luck, look at this as an opportunity, with black & white, I know this is a possible winner. The software process that I setup before was very very good.
