I am working with a prepress for a 2 years, what we have here is a proceses house with CTF from Heidelberg Primesetter and SignaSetter, Secreen Katana, and a Drum scaner from Heidelberg, and very soon we will get a CTP Prosetter from Heidelberg, so i hope i can share the little knowledge I have with the expert ppls over here .. and I hope I will be an active member.

..

what i want to know is the basic thing about Workflow and RIP and Postscript, we have a Deltatower here from heidelberg is this the RIP ?? and what dose Workflow mean and how can that help ?? and reallly i want to know more about Postscript and how i can solve a Postscript problems when i have it ?

...

We have Macintosh and IBM over here .. with OSX 10.3.7 and OS 9 .. plus XP and 2003 Server systems, now dayes we start outputing from PDF only .. we convert from any other software to PDF and do the speration from Acrobat it self .. we faced some fonts problems but no more Images and resolotion problems ..

I hope some one can answer my my Q and I hope that Mr. JoePostscript will join us here ..
thanks in advance ..

RE: what dose Postscript, RIP , Workflow mean?

Hello Hakeem,

Welcome, where are you from? I am in Columbus Ohio, US. If you click on the profile link when logged in, you can select an avatar (icon picture) and you can enter your location. I like to collaborate with new people on the forum, some from all over the world these days. Pretty cool. We have members from India, Canada, England, Sweden, France, you name it. Printers and prepress everywhere, same stuff to get done. Pretty cool that we have profession in common all over the world.

RIP just stands for (raster image processor) and yes, your delta is the RIP there. RIP is what takes all data, vector data, like fonts and illustrator type eps stuff + bitmap and CT data, like scans, and converts all into completely pixelized output file to be imaged, for CTF or CTP, usually 2540dpi. Stand alone RIP like Delta, Brisque, Harlequin, and others are stand alone boxes performing RIP to other devices. Laser Printers also have RIP inside, called embedded RIP, same thing, but less heavy duty, inside the printer itself, embedded.

Worflow is just a general term that can be used for a system, like Delta Workflow (you have) or Scitex Brisque workflow (I Have). Or it can be used more appropriately I think, as a wider focus of your entire process. Everything from order entry to product shipping out the back door. Workflow is so important to quality and accuracy, efficiency, that's what I'm into. Better, Faster, more Accurate, anything to improve my workflow. Sounds like you have some pretty decent equipment there. What kind of printing do you guys do there? What kind of presses?

work flow sugeriment.

Hi friend,
Work Flow is a marketing word.
Actually what you need is:
- a good PDF Rip like Metadimension, Postscript/PDF Rip like Delta technology.
- a good imposition program like Preps from Creo or Signastation from Heidelberg (I recomaind Preps)
- a good conection to Ploter HP or Epson by Delta list to EFI Rip or best or Matchprint color rip.
Nothing more.
Regarding to by a Prosetter, in Europe there are a lot of Prosetters with only 1,2 or 3 years old for sale. Very new machine. The answer is in afew time Heidelbergs end he production of this model. The very good machine is Suprasetter or Topsetter. Don´t by a violet machine.
