Using Font Reserve and converting Quark 6 files to Pdf.
I'm at my wits thinking about these...hope anyone there can spare me some advise.
Abit of background...
I'm currently using a Power Mac G5 running at OS X and using Font Reserve for my fonts. Most of my work are done on Quark 6 and i'm currently using an external vendor to produce hires pdf and colour proofs, before i can pass them to my printers, who's using Creo Prinergy workflow.
obviously this is not productive..cos,
#1 - My external vendor seems to have alot of problem with the fonts i supplied. Even after i've "collect for output" 3 times, they keep saying the fonts are missing or cannot be installed on their system. I've wasted alot of time just 'fixing' this problems. As a result, my other work suffer! I look like a panda now, staying up late to meet datelines that's been delayed due to this!
#2 - With the amount of work i have, i need a faster way to convert PDF files and colour proofs. My vendor can do this, but obviously at a cost. So obviously, this is not a good financial and resource solution for me or the company.
#3 - Without a PDF converter software, it's a painstaking process to convert Quark 6 files to Pdf. I feel like a techinician at the end of the day more then a designer! And i still end up with a huge file size.
#3 - my printer is using Creo prinergy and have ask me to 'buy one". Which is not abad idea untill you realise how 'cheap' it is.
#4 - how can i then able to convert quark files and produce high quality pdfs without having to spend too much time ( technically). If i purchase Robot -X- pdf, will there be any capatability problems with Creo?
sorie...this is a tad long,...but i really hope you guys can share with me some advise.
Apprecaite it.

PDF-X-Robot is a lifesaver, is easy, runs great through CREO
Hello, ika, make your own PDF files with PDF-X-Robot, no question is faster AND easier than collect for output process. So, let's do it, Me and other users here will help you through it. Here's a
Getting Started with PDF-X-Robot
document. When you're done, you'll be much more efficient making your own plate ready PDF files. This is what I do every day, help folks make plate ready PDF files and automate their machines.
I have completely automated Preflight, Postscripting, Distilling to PDF, and even printing the final PDF files to a proof. EVERY setting is 100% hard coded and the whole workflow is a no brainer. With regard to font problems, if your fonts are coming out fine from your laser printer, your fonts will come out fine with PDF-X-Robot. You actually don't even have to go File > Print, Robot has it's own menu in Quark and InDesign through an Xtension and Plug-In. Hit that and BAM!
However, I would encourage you to read my
font management for Mac OS X
support document. It will definitely shed some light on the challenges of font management with Mac OS X.
I would also encourage you to save a link to this document on
Disk and File Maintenance with Mac OS X
. These two are providing life saving know how to run Mac OS X fast and smooth. I do provide 100% support to get you going and help you through. _________________ JoePostscript -- support administrator

PDF-X-Robot is a lifesaver, is easy, runs great through CREO
Good, I hope it helps, these files out of PDF-X-Robot are used worldwide by all kinds of commercial printers and designers. Compatability to Prinergy RIPs is proven, as well as every other riop platform. So, they are VERY standard high quality PDF, made in the most perfect way possible. Was nice to meet you, one of the fun things I enjoy about the prepress community here on the site, it's really neat how across the world, there's folks sharing a trade/profession in common. To collaborate and share info and know how like this is really neat. Have a good weekend and let me know what all your folks think about making their own PDF files. _________________ JoePostscript -- support administrator

RE: Faster way to Convert Quark Xpress to PDF, Export
PDF-X-Robot is the easiest fastest way, many of the printers I send robot PDF files to are Creo shops, never a problem. _________________ Interests: adobe acrobat 8 pro, acrobat 8 professional, acrobat 8 standard, acrobat 8.0, acrobat 8.0 professional, acrobat connect, acrobat exe pdf forum, graphic design forum.
