RE: ctcp basysprint computer to plate, conventional plate

Hello Erhansimn,

Great to have you as a member here. Can you tell me what is your plant doing, type of work, line screen, quality level, etc. This device is usually seen most in a lower quality environment like newspaper or newsprint. So can you first let me know what all you folks printing requirements are there and then we can go further discussing the device and maybe some others too. There are a few members who have this device, maybe they will jump in at some point too. Have a good weekend!

RE: ctcp basysprint computer to plate, conventional plate

Hi, I don't know if I would recommend this device because the feedback I've had from users is mixed. I read where a guy had had to replace his BasysPrint with a DS Screen thermal because of so much trouble holding calibration. But, I've also read about commercial shops saving a great deal of money on plates using the system and doing well with it. I'd say it's a mixed bag of reports. I think I would look at a device with virtually no bad reports anywhere, especially if you are setting out to buy a used platesetter. I would recommend looking VERY hard at alternatives that have a better reliability record that's very consistant. I think this device does well in newspaper, journal, and phone book directory type work that is lower quality. As far as I know, I've never once heard anybody try and compare it against top selling thermal CTP platesetters for quality.

Erhanslmn,

I really recommend that you don't go this rout with basysprint ctcp. Although I can echo the comments of picaBOY there, I have read that maany have had really good success, there are equally those who were regretting their decision.

The choice of CTP can be completely mission critical to a company. People can get fired, lose customers, go out of business with a bad decision. Although you might get a basysprint and be one of the guys that is happy, you could also be in regret. So, I recommend you get a device that has no serious downside, that is completely successful. Make a sure bet on systems that are completely solid in their field performance.

You have also inquired about buying a used unit. It is just as important there, if not more important. You want a device with best design, engineering, and track record. I recommend off the top of my head that you look at External Drum over internal Drum, Thermal over Visible light. I'm going to say a Heidelberg Topsetter , Creo Trendsetter , or a DS Screen Platerite . That's three external drum thermal CTP options that I would be looking at. Thermal is going to be most stable consistant imaging, external drum will be most reliable, all these devices are from best manufacturers and have great service history in the field.

Are you looking to automate that platesetter or run semi-auto/manual loading? That would make a difference, the Creo being a weaker device there in terms of its automation support. The other two have better, full featured design for automation than the Creo.
