We have just got a new G5 Tiger. I am not able to connect to any mac running OS 9.x or PCs running windows NT or PC Maclan, but I can see them on the network browser.Can anybody suggest a remedy? Also I cannot connect to any machine running OS X from machines running OS 9(viceversa is possible).

How can I make postscript from Quark6 on panther (save pdf as postscript is not working) It is working from Indesign.

In your network preferences check your IP addressing of course, specifically the router info and DNS, compare to a machine that networks fine, look at difference. And for the mac to mac networking, be sure that sharing is appletalk is turned on. In the Sharing control panel, be sure file sharing is enabled. As for the postscripting, get a copy of PDF-X-Robot and kiss your troubles goodbye, you'll be postscripting in minutes without doing anything but installing it and using it. Besides, it's the fastest method for perfect postscript or PDF from Quark or InDesign CS.

I have checked the mac settings. I can connect between all macs running os 9. I can also connect to os 9 machines from machine running os 10.3
But I cannot connect to the same machines from the new machine running os 10.4. Even though I can connect to machines running os9 from those running 10.3 viceversa is not possible. In all cases I can see the machines on the network browser.

Are you sure that the APPLETALK is enabled on all the OS X machines? Go to network control panel and appletalk panel, be sure that is selected. Sharing is enabled or you would not be able to see from network browser. Have you tried using pure IP address instead of network browser, just do Go Menu > Connect to Server, type in IP address only, see if that connects.

On OS 9 machines there's a advanced button or an options button in the IP control panel somewhere, be sure the force IP is ON, not automatic, this is vague I know but I haven't been in OS 9 for two years. There's a button in there that should be checked for better IP communication, it's defdault is not checked, you have to set that for sure. Sorry so foggy there, but look for it, turn on off, have to go advanced, then options, I think. . . That is VERY important going between OS 9 and OS X.

I just got a new Powermac G5 and was having probs with printers too.

After 3 days of trying to fix it I ended up moving my ethernet cable to the second port and now everything is fine.

Go figure.
