FreeFlight Version Format, about FreeFlight dialog

I'm testing Freeflight and it is a very efficient application. I like it. I took it and dropped a huge customer folder for a publication on it. It ran through a couple of hundred images in about a minute and a half. Found every RGB and a few PDF files with no fonts embedded. This is so easy to use and does the trick I verified the results and it did fine. My question is about the version info in the about FreeFlight dialog box I notice it reads 101106 as the version is that a mistake or will the initial release be 1.0. that info looks incomplete? Looks good so far.

FreeFlight Version Format, preflight software version

Hello pushN50,

Yes, that's the correct version except it will append beta at the end. My software versions are cut by abbreviated date only for revision control. I perform so many updates and add features all the time that it's the best way to maintain version control. I won't have a traditional 1.0 release etc. it will be a abbreviated date, 101106 means Oct, 11th 2006. Any problems found in testing yet?

FreeFlight free preflight software for prepress

The software is working great here and it is very fast. I just got a report back and it averaged less than a second per file but generally is taking about a second to get results.

I dropped a customers job on it and found two RGB files right away in seconds - very nice.

Freeflight better than Preflight Pro?

Hi, Hoping this (my 1st post) will allow me the opportunity to download and test Freeflight. I'm about to take on the labouriious task of PDFing a 136 page tourist magazine, loads of supplied adverts in various formats, and no doubt (cause the designer is a bit slack) loads of RGBs. Really hoping this software is the answer to my prayers. Got to be better than Flightcheck, I can open every image in photoshop quicker than that scans them, and it's missing font reporting is blatantly not true! However how will it compare to Preflight Pro? Use to like this when using QuarkXpress 4. Hoping it's on a par. will report back as soon as I get my mits on it, certainly sounds good. Cheers in advance

FreeFlight Software, compares to FlightCheck & PreFlight

Hi Beefy,

Yes, much FASTER than FlightCheck and drop dead simple to run. However, I am a little higher on my opinion of FlightChecks results than what you indicate here. I have done very well with FlightCheck and have over a dozen licenses at work here. With regard to using it in your project, you just drag all your source files, or job folder onto it, and Viola, it will go through in about a second per file and deliver results. In the results, here's what you'll get, a quick to-do list of files to check.

It's different than FlightCheck in that it will show you not as much detail, is more a simple pass/fail tool. GOOD, BAD COLOR, BAD EMBEDDED, BAD FORMAT

With Tiff, Jpeg, EPS scans, simple image files it's been very accurate for color space verify and fast as hell.

With vector EPS and PDF, like illustrator and freehand, etc, it will list fonts embedded, and if not ALL embedded, it will list what is required by each file to output. It's up to you to make sure all of those are activated before you proceed. It will also check color space on all images embedded and give you a pass/fail on color space. However, it will give a few false negatives on complex files once in awhile, but it shouldn't give any false positives ever, that I am aware of. So, sometimes, you may check files out that do print out OK, FreeFlight couldn't be 100% sure, so gives warning. I have engineered it to be on the side of caution.

On EPS and PDF it will give a BAD EMBEDDED result if there are any graphics required by that eps or PDF that are not embedded into it. So that tells you there's nested links that you need to look out for. So, the only GOOD eps/pdf has to be right color space with all graphics and fonts embedded.

But, at this price, and the speed, it is a great tool. This is only in beta, so I really need the help of a large user group to make it better. I am using it in my workflow and have stopped using FlightCheck. I feel the speed and easy function is worth the difference in features. I have been doing really well with it so far.

I am trying to put up another release tonight. So, keep an eye on the FreeFlight download forum at bottom of forums, a new download link will be posted tonight. You have to be (member + 1 post) to get into that part of board. So, you are qualified dude. We just added a couple of things and did some tweaks. I will wait about a month to make another update after this one.

FreeFlight Software, compares to FlightCheck & PreFlight

Hi Joe,

cheers for your reply bud. Sounds exactly what I've been looking for for a while. I work in a large format graphics company as well as working on magazines in my 'free' time, so this could proove to be a really useful tool, and I reckon I could give it a good test. Struggling to find the download link though. Am I blind? or is it not up yet, or have I missed it (had a few days off) can get into the aforementioned forum now I have started posting but the where abouts of the link is puzzling me. Any clues would be appreciated.

cheers again pard
Beeefy
