Adobe CS2 Illustrator crashing on Mac OS X

Hi,

Welcome, are you on OS X or on a PC, sorry you didn't say, although this is an OS X forum Smile Are you by chance on an intel mac? What version of Adobe Creative Suite and What version of OS are you on, see if I can assist.

Adobe Illustrator CS2 Crash, Illustrator Crashing w/ OS X

well, there are many many versions of CS2 and every one runs better than last, especially since you are on intel mac. additionally mac os x on intel has many versions of the mac os x that you could be running. Cs2 is having to run with rosetta and is reportedly one of the worst running applications on intel macs with rosetta. so lets double check that all your versions are at most current available. additionally, intel macs will run like crap with CS2 if you have anything less than 2GB of RAM. so, how much ram are you running, also try to close out all possible applications when working in anything from CS2 because of above reasons, give all the horsepower you can to Cs2 because it simply doesn't run as well as other apps on intel macs.

i have 2GB or RAM and as far as the most current version...i have to check but i think it is. and as far as closing all other apps, i am a separator for one of the biggest screenprinting shops in so cal. i cant afford the time to keep opening and closing everything. mac shouldn't allocate memory to the programs running unless theyre being used. thats another thing. what about setting a static memory allocation for photoshop and illustrator ?

Adobe CS2 Illustrator crashing on Mac OS X

i dont know man, i am relating mainly to my experience with my new mac pro tower and a new imac intel. i use illustrator sparingly but do lots of work all day in adobe indesign cs2 and just jump in and out of adobe photoshop and adobe illustrator repairing files for output. the intel boxes are fast as hell and you can't take mine away. but last time i crashed this much apple was licensing cheap clones. it's not the mac or intel, it's the adobe apps suck with rosetta where other apps like quark 6 never crash with it. i did notice though when we had the 1GB RAM that came installed new that it was much much worse. like i couldn't get things done, just crashing all day. maybe try working in linework mode in the parts where you are crashing? i don't know. all i know is that i had similar performace with clean installed apps on a new box and although with more RAM and the latest updates it has gotten better, it still crashes allot. CS2 does not run stable with intel, other apps seem to run fine. CS3 is coming pretty soon and it will be universal/native and that should take care of this for good. adobe has overbuilt their apps in my opinion and they are really bloated with un-necessary features and enhancements. you could cut half the features and functions without anybody missing them. apple doing same, like tiger with its bloated spotlight crap. who needed that, i just want to find a file and have to wait twice as long for all that crap that is zero benefit... Other than that, isn't tiger really just panther?

Error "The application Illustrator has unexpectedly qui

Error "The application Illustrator has unexpectedly quit..." when you use Pathfinder commands or the knife tool in Adobe Illustrator CS2 (Intel-based Mac and Mac OS X)

Mac OS X v. 10.4.8 update fixes certain CS2 oddities. I have downloaded the 10.4.8 update on my Intel-based MacBook Pro. The update fixes problems that I had using Adobe InDesign CS2 and adobe Illustrator CS2 applications (which currently run in Rosetta on Intel macs). When using InDesign CS2, the numbers are usually displayed with up to 4 decimal places. On the Intel machines, the same numbers displayed with many more decimal places [as many as 16 decimals]. This makes using the adobe suite difficult, hard to identify values.

With the Mac OS X v. 10.4.8 update installed decimal places are in their proper place. The Adobe apps will run in Universal Binary soon, but for now, the Mac OS X v. 10.4.8 update will fix some issues and is a required update if you use Creative Suite with intel macs.

Adobe is having crashes when using Adobe Illustrator CS2 (seldom [PARM] crashes), I read where one guy was saying that the Mac OS X v. 10.4.8 update fixes these problems too. Adobe stating, these were all Rosetta issues, and not Adobe issues. But if that's true, why are all the other programs running so well with Rosetta? Quark Xpress 6 and 7 seem to have no problems with Rosetta and intel?

Yesterday my CS2 app finally arrived and after installing it on my new powermac g5 with 2.5gig of Ram 3 times I tried to launch InDesign and it crashed.

Here I was all pissed off and ready to get onto Adobe when I got notification that there was updates available.

After downloading and installing the updates so far everything seems to be working okey dokey.

Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I have to start on the layout of 3 publications in the next couple of weeks.

Until I've trained my editor in chief and his assistant I'll still be using Quark running in Classic mode and its a bit glltchy so I'm hoping that the transition wont take too long.

Kepp me in your prayers Laughing

Crashing CS2

If it is an upgrade - get with Adobe

If it is a new install -- RUN! Font issues seem to be the big culprit... and third party stuff that manipulates the font library - Microsoft products namely...

I went through this crap with adobe when they switched from OS 7 to OS 8 and went power PC. Again when they decided to switch code to run both Mac and PC. It took a full year to get the bugs worked out... Good luck to you! I hear CS3 is coming around the corner. I hear it works better than CS2 does on MacIntel.

Good luck let us know what you discover!

Crashing CS2 Solution?

I just got a new MacPro at work (a print shop) and now Illustrator, Photoshop and most of all InDesign are crashing all the time. I have the latest update (4.0.4). I've spent 1/2 hour to do 5 minutes of work because of all the crashes. Always the same problem with a particular document, but different causes between different docs. For example, exporting to pdf and switching back to ID then trying to print crashes one set of docs. Trying to view my Ill CS2 eps links in ID in full resolution crashes another doc. Yesterday I was working in Mail and Illustrator quit. Or Photoshop will quit while I'm working in Illustrator. Yes I have 2GB of RAM.

From what I've been reading online, it sounds like it comes down to a conflict with Intel. I have the TechNotes from adobe, but some of the suggestions seem pretty drastic. I did reset the preferences and it was ok for half a day. I read somewhere about a conflict with AppleTalk and to go to the 10.4.5 version, but they don't really recommend it and that kind of tweaking makes me nervous. (Sorry I can't find that page again.)

I am using the Suitcase Fusion demo, and I have about 5 days to decide if I should buy it or go back to Suitcase X1. (I need font management because I get fonts from clients.) I'm open to suggestions on alternative font management...

I'm not getting much work done lately and I know CS3 is supposed to be better, but I need to do work in the meantime! Are there any good solutions out there?

Adobe Illustrator CS2 Crashing

Make sure you have 2GB of ram and I can vouch for X1 and it's compatability to intel macs with CS2 suite. If you have less than 2GB ram that's a major problem for you. Stay with most current everything, get ram, stay away from fusion, X1 is still the best standard app. and runs fine. I can work all day with only a crash or two usually in Illustrator CS2 and Indesign CS2. Most CS2 crashes will boil down to a font that's not healthy. If you run your job fonts through fontdoctor X, organize, then repair all, this will cut down most of CS2 crashes.

Don't believe half of what you read. This is a big propaganda point for adobe to act like it's apple's emulator. OK, so why does Quark xpress run day in-day out with no crashing? That's because it's not a flaky program like CS2 and is perfectly compatible to apple's os and technology. OK, then why does EVERY APPLICATION on my heavily loaded machine run fine on intel? Sorry Adobe, like the app but it's a bloated unstable mess for it's core users, mac users.

All day I work at a fever pace. Every day I have a crash, atleast one. What application am I using, Adobe. Thanks Adobe, you cost me 30 or so minutes of valuable production time EVERY DAY. We should start a class action law suit against adobe to be repaid for all this wasted time..
