disk partition problem mac OS X disk utility stuff
hello mheger, sounds bad. Disk Warrior and others are more likely to ruin a disk than repair or maintain it anymore. I would be very cautious about losing all the rest of the data while using any non-apple utility on that disk with two good partitions still on it. These partitions are not as seperate as most people think. So right away back up all that data on all three partitions before continuing to work on it. Is the Disk Warrior of an appropriate version to work on this OS and it's partitions. Many many folks have hosed their entire machines trying to use these old tools. Although Disk Warrior is your best bet it may also blow a partiton or system if the version is not appropriate. You may go ahead and do regular maintebnance of the file system and see if there's not a cache file corrupt somehow hanging onto that bad interrupted session. It wouldn't hurt to try.

Reformat, Partition Hard Drive OS X Disk Utility Format
>> If I erase that one partition is there a chance it could affect the others?
Yes, there's allot of bad signs in what you are reporting. I would backup the two good partitions, then reformat and re-partition all three. I would do a security erase and write zeros under options before reformatting. The fact that none will mount on Tiger is a sign that it's all at risk. I would blow it all the way out, down to the magnet.
(1) Back Up all Data to be restored later.
Securely erasing disks can securely erase a disk to make sure the confidential information, problem data, viruses, etc. it contains cannot be recovered.
Usually when erasing a disk, Disk Utility does not erase the files' data. It erases just the information used to access the files. To completely erase a disk, Disk Utility writes over the erased files' data, so it can never be recovered or be a problem again. You can choose 7 times, or 35 times but that's kind of silly overkill. Writing data over the disk once, is fine, you are writing zeros over all data, that's good enough. This can take a couple of hours, so setr it to go all night or something.
(a) In Disk Utility, select the disk you want to erase and click Erase.
(b) Specify a volume format and name for the disk.
(c) Click Security Options and choose to write over the disk once >OK >Erase.
(2) Reformat your Disk again nice & Clean
Next, Reformat and Partition your disk back into the 3 "volumes." Each volume works like a separate disk. Partitioning a disk erases all the files on the disk. If you have any files on the disk you haven't backed up, be sure to copy them to another disk before you partition the disk. I would recommend just Mac OS Extended (journaled), don't use and windows stuff that may complicate your disk performance.
In Mac OS X Disk Utility, in your Utilities Folder
(a) select the disk that you want to partition in the list >Click Partition.
(b) Choose number of partitions in Volume Scheme pop-up menu.
(c) Click each partition and type a name for it >choose format, and size.
(d) Click the Partition button, and then click Partition again.
After you partition a disk, you should see an icon for each volume. You will also see the volumes in the sidebar of Finder windows.
(3) Restore your data, be careful not to ever unplug before remount.
I was particularly interested in your post because I have a habit of unplugging my 1TB HD from my laptop as I break down to go to and from work every day. I have been catching myself doing it once or twice a month and am trying hard to remember not to do that. I've been lucky though, maybe because it's one big partition. _________________ JoePostscript -- support administrator
