Making postscript files in OS X Tiger with Adobe InDesign CS

Has anyone come across how to make a postscript file from indesign using the Tiger sytem, at moment i am having to export as a PDF from indesign, instead of distilling the postscript file. any help would be great. Cheers

Hello Brad, welcome to the forum.

If you have PDF-X-Robot:

[b](1)
go to your PDF-X-Robot menu, pull down to last item named "ID 2 PS Single Pages" and select that.

(2) after the automatic preflight, it will ask for a location, "select a folder to send postscript files to" specify the out folder or Done Folder.

(3) it will then ask for a name of the output file(s), I usually use a job number.

(4) that's it, PDF-X-Robot will start printing postscript files in single pages till it's done. Very very simple and with automatic preflight every time alerting you of problems.

If you do not have PDF-X-Robot, much longer:

(1) File menu>Preflight, run a Preflight of your document. Correct all
errors noted in Preflight Summary. Beware of what the holes are in using this preflight manually without a tool like PDF-X-Robot.

(2) File Menu>Print, change your print options to match the following.
Continued on next page

(3) Enter the custom paper size specific to your document size.
Custom paper size = document width+1”
Example: 8.375”x10.875”= 9.375” width

(4) Select Save after naming your final file.

(5) Name your final file based on standard naming convention, usually "JobNameNumber_PageNumber.ps" Never use special characters, only numbers, letters, dashes, and underscores are appropriate. Always save each postscript into single page files for page component workflow to facilitate troubleshooting, corrections and imposition.

Just Curious

Brad - have you had problems with the CS2 Presets for X-1a or High Quality Print, and that's why you are postscipting through distiller?
Thanks
Brutus

Hi there.

I make ps files from InDesign everyday. Have you Acorobat Distiller installed?

If you have then follow this set-up.

In Print window:

Print Pre-Set (Call it PDF Creation or any name to suit)
Printer (Post Script File)
PPD (Acrobat 7)

Then you can adjust the paper sizes, colours to suit your job. You can then simply save that file into your "in" folder if you use them or too a desktop for distilling.

Hope that helps

Mike
